2020-21 Elementary Studio Class Offerings Ages 7-12
Students engage in projects throughout the year that challenge them to build skills, problem solve, experiment with new media, interact encouragingly with others, and learn who's who in the art world.
This year we will experiment with many 2-D mediums, such as charcoal, acrylics, oil and chalk pastels, and watercolors, and build skills with 3-D mediums, such as clay, plaster, and fiber arts. We also spend time practicing drawing skills as Step 1 of most projects. I often coordinate my lessons with themes from literature, science, math, and of course, art history!
I adore engaging children in Art History! I've got some tricks for making it NOT boring! My purpose in having students become familiar with great works of art is singular: that someday, when they come across that piece of art, they will have a joyful moment of recognition, like glimpsing a favorite celebrity in the grocery store! I tell them it's my little gift to them for their future enjoyment!
At the end of the year, we will plan a field trip to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
I create new projects every year, so kids can sign up year after year, steadily improving skills! You may pay per year, per semester, or on a monthly basis. Space is limited (this will be based on recommendations at the time we begin classes) and typically fill quickly. First come, first serve.
