For this lovely piece, we will learn how to add white gouache (gwash) into our watercolors for a creamy, pastel look. We'll use a template for the boots so they are just the right proportions, and I'll teach you how to save highlights and add shadows for depth.
Friday, June 10, 7:00pm-9ish In-studio class, $25 THIS CLASS IS FULL Abstract Exploration All supplies provided
This approach to watercolor is meditative and fun as colors bleed and bloom, drip and splatter. Once dry, we'll play with paint pens, charcoal, ink, and gel pens to add multi-media details. Choose your own colors for a personalized abstract piece.
Friday, July 22, 7:00pm-9ish Zoom class, $25 unlimited spots Tree & Toadstool I was one of those kids who hung out in the woods, named the trees, and loved finding mushrooms and other treasures in the understory. I'm still a fan and am grateful I get to live among majestic trees. Let's learn how to paint a beautiful tree in a simple landscape, along with a vignette of toadstools! Between these two paintings, we will use all of our Royal and Langnickel brushes and explore many watercolor techniques. Zoom classes are recorded in case you can't attend the live class.
Saturday, August 6, 9:30am-11:30ish In-studio class, $25 This class is full. Join the wait list HERE. Painting with coffee All supplies provided Join me for a unique painting experience. We'll create a palette of sepia shades made with instant coffee, and use a bit of our Koi watercolors, as well. From there, I'll walk you through two fun paintings: a birds-eye view of a mug of coffee with splashes and splatter, and a sweet landscape that reminds me of the Mississippi River Valley. I'll even serve up some coffee & muffins for the morning!
Escape to Greece! 4 Recorded tutorials, $28
Last September, I took a dream vacation to Greece, exploring Athens for several days and then sailing on a catamaran from island to island for a week! Seriously, people! I can't believe I got to take this trip. I took my watercolors along and spent many hours painting en plein aire, with the intention of sharing my journal with you! In this series, I not only have you paint the images and colors of Greece along with me as I talk about the trip and share cultural and historical tidbits, I also teach you how to journal your own adventures!
Video 1: Learn about the supplies and mindset you need for travel journaling and paint the colors of Greece in a vibrant swatch Video 2: Paint a Greek seascape with sailboats as you learn about how to simplify and edit the scene Video 3: Paint a vintage door from a charming neighborhood in Athens and discover how to quickly build depth in your painting Video 4: Paint the Parthenon on the Acropolis and learn how to quickly sketch architecture in 2-point perspective
Here is my invitation to you to join me on this journey...
One more option if you're brand new to my online classes...
Introduction to Your New Watercolor Supplies Recorded tutorial, $10
I highly recommend this recorded video tutorial in case you're brand new and want to orient yourself to your new Koi watercolors and R&L brushes before the first Zoom class in the series. Students who have taken this class first say they feel empowered and eager to join the series. In it, you will create a sampler of colors, brush strokes, and techniques. Please order your supplies promptly due to potential shipping delays, or you can stop by my studio in Oronoco. I usually have everything on hand in my store.
FAQs... Cancellation If you need to cancel the in-studio class, the fee will be credited to a future class. No refunds.
Skill levels My classes are good for beginners and those with experience. Teenagers love my classes, but adults are my primary customers. I walk you step by step through each project, giving you tips and troubleshooting ideas. Each stand-alone class will have a new theme in which we practice several techniques. If you take all the classes, you will have a full array of new and developing skills to launch you into a watercolor world!
Supplies and Introductory Class I recommend using the same supplies I use for ease of instruction. I teach using very specific color and brush instructions, so having the same selection of watercolors and brushes really helps. The link to the list is HERE. These are affordable student-grade supplies that deliver beautiful results when used correctly. If you fall in love with watercolors, you can invest in professional-grade supplies down the road.
Who can participate? I invite anyone in your household to participate in the Zoom and recorded classes, but ask that you not share links beyond that. Each member of the family will need their own supplies if participating during a live Zoom class. The class tuition only covers 1 person for the in-studio classes. Seats will be open for guests who are not part of the series for $25/each.
