Sketchbook Assignment: (scroll to the bottom to make sure you do all assignments)
Use your pencil set to draw your hand holding something. It can be an object that is important to you or an object that you think would just be fun to draw. Fill your page...don't make it tiny.
You may draw by observation (looking directly at your hand as you draw) or you may take a picture of it and draw from the picture. You may do simple shading with bold outlines or more realistic shading.
Art Appreciation Assignment:
This semester, we'll be learning about the stories behind many fascinating pieces of art. I will ask you to look at a piece of art and answer two questions about it. Then you will watch a short video and answer another question.
Study this painting by Norman Rockwell from 1958. In the back of your sketchbook, answer: 1. What do you notice? (3-5 things) (think in terms of artistic choices- style, composition, color, symbolism, time period, etc.) 2. What do you wonder? (think in terms of what, when, where, why, how) 3. What do you like and/or dislike about the art?
