Ages 8-14 (must be able to read and hold a tune reasonably well)

​$130/child (a $25 non-refundable deposit will be taken at registration and applied to tuition)

Space is limited to 12 per session.

**Note: these classes take place during the winter break from homeschool art classes.

DESCRIPTION:  In this 6-week class, participants will play drama games to develop theatrical skills, work on set and costume design, contribute ideas to the musical, learn and rehearse a 30 minute mini-musical, and perform for families on the final day of class.   This is my 11th original mini-musical class, including 2 marionette-based performances, and they have all been a blast!  

All rehearsals and performances are done in my studio.  Audience seating will be limited.

EXPECTATIONS: (please read carefully and be sure you can commit)

• Participants will be expected to work hard memorizing their lines and songs at home between classes.  They will receive a script and a recording of the original songs.  They will need help with this.
• Parents will be needed to help figure out costumes, though I have a fairly big stash.  This may involve some added expense.
• Students may not miss or be late to any rehearsals except for unexpected illness or other emergencies.  If they have scheduling conflicts, please try again another time.  

The performance will be the final half hour of the last day of class.  A limited number of family will be able to view the live performance, but we will record it to share. ​

About the writer & director:

I have directed over 10 original Riverwood Studio mini-musicals since 2016 and have had a blast writing the scripts and songs and watching the kids bring them to life!  Prior to this, I was a volunteer at Words Players Theatre for 6 years and the music director for PAPA's Lion King, Jr in 2017.  I've written and helped produce 2 full-length musicals, Nanny McTwist and Phantom of the High School Musical, in collaboration with students, served twice as Words Players music director, designed and painted sets, and worked in costuming and props.   Way back when, I hosted several Reader's Theater productions with neighborhood kids in our home when my children were young.  I have seen my 3 children blossom in confidence, leadership, musicianship, and creativity through their theater experiences, and would love to see other kids reap the benefits.
