Theatre opens doors to creativity, teamwork, problem solving, and confidence-building. Through theatre games, collaborating on set, props, and costumes, and staging a short play with music and special effects, participants will get a taste of the stage without the time-commitment of a full-length production. Families are invited to the performance on the last day. Parents will be asked to help pull together simple props and costumes.
I have been a volunteer parent at Words Players Theatre for 6 years. I've written 2 full-length musicals in collaboration with the junior troupe, served twice as music director, designed and painted sets, and worked in costuming and props. My daughter and assistant, Grace, has been in many shows and has had a variety of jobs around the theatre. Our family hosted several Reader's Theatre productions in our home when the children were young. I have seen my 3 children blossom in confidence, leadership, musicianship, and creativity through their theatre experiences, and would love to see other kids reap the benefits.
