Art Appreciation

For the final 6 weeks of art class, I am going to select several pieces of art each week and ask you questions that require personal evaluation and thoughtful answers.  You may write them out on paper and hand them in at class, or you may email them to me if that's easier.

I challenge you to write a PARAGRAPH for each answer instead of one or two words.  A paragraph is 3-5 sentences and forces you to think a little deeper about your reasons for your answers.

Below are 4 of the top 10 most expensive paintings in the world, based on the price they sold at auction.

1.  Why do you think these four paintings, even though they all sold for over 100 million dollars, have very little in common?  One is classical renaissance, two are abstract, and one is pop art.  What could be the explanation that they each demanded such a high price?

2.  If you were a wealthy art collector who lived in a mansion and owned all four of these paintings, in which room would you hang each painting and why?
