Let's learn how to capture a wintery wonderland using various watercolor techniques and our tube of white gouache, which is perfect for snow.  Adding a curious fox in the distance is the perfect finish.

2022 Word of Intention

I am a long-time proponent of setting words of intention each year.  They are not resolutions, but words that will set the tone for the year and remind me how I want to live my life.  I thought you might also enjoy the process of selecting a word and illustrating it.  I will create a custom template for you, so no need to worry about lettering it free-hand.

We will paint a sign and bookmark with our words.  I will share in class what "selah" means to me as my 2022 word of intention.  All supplies provided.  There is an additional $5 fee for this class to cover the prep work.

Heartfelt Cards for Valentine's Day

We will paint a variety of cards that can be used for Valentine's Day or general "thinking of you" cards.  You will practice several watercolor techniques, such as ink & wash, glazing, bleeding, masking, and mopping, as we create these sweet designs.

Zoom classes are recorded in case you can't participate live.

Fancy Floral Chicken

Who doesn't love a chicken made of flowers?  Using a template and TRANSFER PAPER from our supply list, we will create this adorable ink & wash lady in the color palette of your choice.  You may end up framing this one!

Flowers on Vintage Sheet Music

I've been stashing away vintage sheet music for years, and I have just come to realize that watercolors work beautifully on a certain weight of paper.  So come on over to the studio, browse the lyrics for the perfect song, and paint away!

Transparent Poppies

Once you learn the technique of transparent painting, you may just get addicted!  Poppies are a great flower for learning this technique, but then you can apply it to many types of flowers.

I will mail the link to the recording at the beginning of the month so you can complete it at your convenience.

Wood Panel Rainbow Succulent

I discovered recently that we can get a beautiful effect with watercolor directly painted on an 8x8 birch wood panel.  This rainbow succulent gets us dipping in all of our beautiful colors.
We'll even add a little metallic sparkle glaze at the end.  It will be ready to hang!

Vintage Bike & Rustic Door

By request, we are going to tackle a gorgeous vintage bike spilling with flowers, along with a colorful rustic door that reminds me of my trip to Athens this past fall.   Don't be intimidated by the detailed drawing of the bicycle...we'll use a template to transfer it!

Cancellation
If you need to cancel the in-studio class, the fee will be credited to a future class.  No refunds.

Why the various formats?

We continue to be in strange times with the pandemic, and after a survey I gave in the summer seeking feedback about what class offerings students would like, I got an even spread of Zoom, recordings, and in-person classes, so that's what I've designed for the fall.  We'll see how it goes!
Skill levels
My classes are good for beginners and those with experience.  Teenagers love my classes, but adults are my primary customers.  I walk you step by step through each project, giving you tips and troubleshooting ideas.  Each stand-alone class will have a new theme in which we practice several techniques.  If you take all 8 classes, you will have a full array of new and developing skills to launch you into a watercolor world!
Supplies and Introductory Class
I recommend using the same supplies I use for ease of instruction.  I teach using very specific color and brush instructions, so having the same selection of watercolors and brushes really helps. The link to the list is HERE.  These are affordable student-grade supplies that deliver beautiful results when used correctly.  If you fall in love with watercolors, you can invest in professional-grade supplies down the road.

I also highly recommend the "Introduction to Your Watercolor Supplies" recorded video tutorial in case you're brand new and want to orient yourself to your watercolors and brushes before the first class in the series.  Students who have taken this class first say they feel empowered and eager to join the series.  In it, you will create a sampler of colors, brush strokes, and techniques.  This class is $10 and does not count toward the volume discount.  Please order your supplies promptly due to potential shipping delays.
Who can participate?
I invite anyone in your household to participate in the Zoom and recorded classes, but ask that you not share links beyond that.  Each member of the family will need their own supplies if participating during a live Zoom class.  The class tuition only covers 1 person for the in-studio classes.  Seats will be open for guests who are not part of the series for $20/each.

COVID protocol
Masks in the studio are optional.
