WEEK 11 & 12

Sketchbook Assignment


​Get down low and take a photo of someone's legs at an angle like the sample images (or have someone take a picture of your legs.) Notice how the shoe closest to the viewer takes up half of the page.  This is called FORESHORTENING.  It's a form of perspective.

Using your reference photo, sketch the picture, filling up a page in your sketchbook.  Use ink to create a contour drawing, then shade or color it as you choose.  If you want to do ink and watercolor, please use a piece of watercolor paper.  It will handle the watercolor paints better than your sketchbook paper.  Experiment with your own style.

You have two weeks to complete this project.  Due Jan. 21.

Watch the video and then answer these questions in the back of your sketchbook: 
1. What effects did the use of foreshortening have in Mantenga's Dead Christ? 
​2. Did you think it was a more powerful painting than some of the others mentioned in the video?  Why or why not?
