Preparation for next project: Ice cream-themed photo
We will begin our ice cream-themed project for the Flapdoodles art contest. This year, we will be doing a printmaking project in the pop-art style, with repeated prints mounted together. Your first task is to find a photograph of an interesting looking ice cream treat. Don't worry about the colors. Look more at the shapes. Here are a few to choose from, or you can find your own. Please print it and bring it with you next week. It does not need to be printed in color. Send it to me if you need me to print it.
Sketchbook Assignment: Colored Pencil on Black
Complete the insect drawing I assigned last week (see below) if you did not get a chance to do it yet. If you already did it, choose an photographic image or real object and the paper of your choice to draw in colored pencil. Some suggestions are: a food/treat, a face, a flower, a still life or single object drawn from observation like a shoe, or a landscape.
OR
Using a piece of black paper from your sketchbook, choose one of the photographs of insects by Levon Bins to create a colored pencil drawing. You may draw it very small or fill your whole page. You may spend more than one week on this. The Art Appreciation video is a TED talk by the photographer of this insect. Fascinating!
Art Appreciation
Watch this 8 minute TED talk photographer Levon Bill, who photographs insects. As you watch, think about how you would capture the different textures and surfaces with colored pencils. You don't need to answer ant questions...just ponder the incredible microscopic intricacy of God's creation that is so easy to miss.
