Sketchbook Assignment: On a piece of the watercolor paper (thickest paper in your sketchbook) draw a rectangle and then sketch a picture inside the box that extends outside the box. Watercolor only the part that is inside the box. You can Sharpie or micron over your pencil lines or just leave the pencil. You may also incorporate colored pencil or alcohol ink markers if you'd like.
Here are some examples. You can do an ocean theme or choose a subject of your choice.
Art Appreciation
We have an upcoming trip to the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in May. Watch this 10 minute video that talks about the museum and how special it is.
Question we will discuss in class: if you were to open an art museum that had a limited theme, what theme would you choose? Would all the pieces be a certain style, like Impressionism? Or would they all have a subject in common, like ice cream? Can you think of a clever name for it? We'll be sharing our creative ideas for a small town art museum.
