Sketchbook Assignment:

Positive/Negative space drawings
Draw a 5x7 inch rectangle border in your sketchbook using a ruler. Next draw the plant on the left, filling the space you just drew. Split the space with a lightly drawn line. Use a pencil to shade one side, and use your thicker sharpie to color in the negative space on the other side, like shown in the examples.

Art Appreciation Assignment:
For the next 8 weeks, we're going to take a trip through art history with TICE videos. They are fun and informative, and will help you understand how art has changed over thousands of years.
After you watch the first video, answer these questions on the lined paper in your sketchbook. Skip a couple of lines after last week's homework and write the date and then your answers.
1. In Egypt, the art style did not change over ___________ years (except briefly.)
2. Name one of the several items that would indicate a picture was of a pharaoh.
3. Do you think you would have enjoyed being an artist in Egyptian times? Why or why not?
