Week 8

Complete your sketchbook cover if you have not.

Be sure to bring your COLORED PENCILS to the next class!

BRING YOUR ANIMAL REFERENCE PHOTO:

We will be starting our colored pencil animal drawings next week.  You need to choose your own reference photo.  Please choose an animal with a lot of texture and/or pattern in the form of fur, feathers, or reptilian skin.  It can be a full body picture or a close up of the head.  You can plan to color the background or leave it simple/blank.

The easiest way to find good pictures is to search "animal photography" or a specific animal with the word "photography" following it.  If you have animal magazines, you can use a page from those.

Make sure it is printed full-size, filling the page, and in color.  Send it to me if you're printer is not working.

Here are a few examples.  Feel free to use one of these.

  Sketchbook & Art Appreciation Assignment:
Watch the final video in the TICE series of art history.  You'll learn that 20th Century art was all about creative expression.

Choose one of the movements mentioned, and draw a picture in that style.  Use the medium of your choice.
Examples:
Draw a picture using the Fauvism-style of crazy colors.
Draw a portrait in the Cubism-style like Picasso.
Have a little fun with a Dada-inspired drawing.
Illustrate a dream-like picture inspired by Surrealism.
Choose a song and create an abstract composition in watercolor like Kandinsky.
Create a Jackson Pollock-style abstact painting if you have acrylic paints and a safe space to fling them.  Listen to some jazz music for inspiration.
Make some op art.  Research "optical illusion art" for inspiration.
Draw a magnified flower like Georgia O'Keefe.
Go outside and make some land art.  Take a photo of it, print it, and stick it in your sketchbook to show me.

HAVE FUN!
