Art Appreciation Assignment:

WEEK 7 QUESTIONS:
NOTE: Be sure to watch the video to the very end.  During the credits, the actual art talked about in the video is shown in photos.

1.  If you were to use the idea of "appropriation" explained in the video, what piece of art from history would you use as inspiration?  What are 3  ways you would alter it to make it fresh and contemporary?
Picture
Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life, 1905
My answer:  Gustav Klimt's Tree of Life
-Recreate it in fabric as a quilt
-Substitute the faces for political leaders' faces, creating a political statement...like Biden hugging Ukrainian president Zelensky while Putin looks on angrily
-Carve just the tree image into a piece of wood

2.  If you could sculpt a cloud, as mentioned in the video, what would you sculpt for your community to look up and enjoy?  Why?

My answer:  I would sculpt a flock of canada geese because geese are a familiar sight in our skies, but a cloud formation of them would be stunning!

By the way, The Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claus Oldenburg mentioned in the video is located in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.  I've seen it!
Here is the LINK for the next video that focuses on Contemporary.

You're done!
